We went to the Tennessee State Museum after attending the Tennessee State War Memorial on July 18, 2015. This post is about the Tennessee State Museum which was nice. It was divided into different time periods throughout USA history.

The below picture is an oil painting of General George H. Thomas and below that is the sign next to the painting talking briefly about him.
This has both a mummy and a mummified cat in it.
The mummy is 3,600 years old and brought to TN in 1860.

AMERICAN MASTODON (Mammut americanum)
The American Mastodon was commonly found in the forests of North America during the Middle to Late Ice Age and became extinct about 10,000 years ago. Usually it attained a height of about ten feet at the shoulders, had a long massive body with short, stocky legs and fed on plant life. The mastodon had a flatter head, heavier and larger tusks and longer hair than the modern elephant, which it resembles.

We stayed at a Days Inn the first night though there was a hard time finding a vacant hotel while on the road and then stayed at Quality Inn for the weekend.

REFUGE IN THE BATTLE FOR FRANCE
An American Aid Station
Once the surprise of the Normany invasion wore off, German resistance to the Allied advance stiffened, and causalties were heavy on both sides.
This model depicts an American aid station set up in a battle-scarred French church. Wounded soldiers are being taken from an ambulance jeep and a U.S. Stuart fight tank.
Communications wire is strung across the road, using the crucifix as a telephone pole.
A Red Cross flag is being laid on the roof to deter attack.

The Allied Expeditionary Force moved rapidly inland after security the Normany beaches, pausing only for resupply, as shown here.
The tank is the M-4, or Sherman, in this case modified for amphibious use. Its main gun was 75mm. The Sherman, although outclassed by several later Allied and German models, was one of the workhorses of the Allied victory.
